(1958 - 1990): His distinctive cartoonish style of drawing became well-known in New York even before anyone knew the name of the artist. He created a universe of crawling children, barking dogs, and dancing figures that initially populated the subway system, but eventually became an international phenomenon. He did large public murals in Bordeaux and Paris, on the Berlin Wall, and in Washington, D.C. He died of AIDS at age 31.
